The three things John loved most - after his family

We are proud and privileged to be very good friends with John and Glenys. Although we didn't know them for very many years, it's the quality of the friendship that counts, not the quantity of Christmas cards you exchange. I'd say that John's three favourite things were camping, travelling and drinking - which was why he was such an enthusiastic member of the Motorcaravanners Club. And as they say on the reality shows, there was no particular order to it. On one occasion, these favourite things coalesced into a Perfect Storm. It was 2008, and we'd just completed on our apartment in Spain. John and Glenys were camping in Spain, so being the good friends they are, they came to help us to move in. One afternoon, when all the work was done, we hit the cheap Spanish wine with a vengeance. In the early evening, one of our new neighbours came to introduce themselves. They are Sikhs, so he was resplendent in his turban. After yet more alcohol, they took their leave of us, and Glenys and I could have fallen through the floor when John shook the guy's hand and said, 'It's been lovely meeting you, and I do hope your head soon gets better!' When John opened his mouth, he often put his foot right in there, but he must have been a good judge of character, because they just laughed, and they've become good friends. He knew what he could get away with, and when it was better to keep quiet. We'll miss him, and his off-the-wall humour.
